ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS Thought for the Day: Today is All Saints’ Day, a day we usually think about the great witnesses of the faith who have died, both ancient and recent. But the word saint does not necessarily describe the deceased. Paul described the beloved in Rome as saints. I can’t read Paul’s mind (I wish I could), but I wonder if Paul thought the beloved, those who understood their place as children of God, would provide the greatest witness to the love of God. It doesn’t take me very long to conjure up an image in my head of those I have known who were truly saints long before they joined God in the life beyond this life. They were saints because everything in their lives pointed to the radical and redemptive love of God. Prayer: Is it me, Lord? I don’t need the title of saint, but I seek the help of your Spirit in hopes of giving witness to your love that is our world’s greatest hope. Amen.
