Prayer for the Weary: God whose love encircles us, we collapse into your comforting embrace. Breaking news, victims, body count, shattered lives, political speeches, numbness, no real accountability. A mother is gunned down to save a child, and her story is the lead at the top of every hour. The media employs her image for we desperately yearn for a hero in these moments. You were there; you embraced her in her loving sacrifice; you wept in the way other parents are weeping who were not there to sacrifice themselves. We have become so very weary of horrific acts of hate, but we implore you for help as we do not wish to see our weariness bend toward apathy and indifference. It is hard, so very hard, Lord, but our nation has massacre fatigue, calcifying into malfeasance. Forgive us if we do not accept your loving embrace as restorative preparation for the work of faith needed. Let Jesus be for us a mentor and model as we refuse to join the “nothing can be done” refrain that so many others have embraced as their motto and rationalization. We say, “It is time to act,” and if we are listening carefully, we hear the whisper of your Spirit, “It is about time!” Amen. via WordPress https://ift.tt/2M23Mtf
