Scripture: Daniel 9:3-5
Then I turned to the Lord God, to seek an answer by prayer and supplication with fasting and sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the Lord my God and made confession, saying, “Ah, Lord, great and awesome God, keeping covenant and steadfast love with those who love you and keep your commandments, we have sinned and done wrong, acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and ordinances…”

Thought for the Day: What good is confession? People have often said, “Confession is good for the soul,” but is it? How does the naming of our sins and faults do something good within us? When I was still living in Florida, I was watching a bird drying itself in the sun with its wings outstretched. A man standing close by said, “You know that bird doesn’t have oil glands and so it doesn’t have the natural waterproofing like other birds. It needs to take the time to dry. Otherwise the weight of the water won’t allow it to get off the ground.” I think we all have at one time or another felt burdened by the weight of our transgressions. I see confession as the intentional act of drying ourselves before in the grace of God so that once again our lives can take flight.

Prayer: Lord God, lighten my load by means of your amazing forgiveness. Amen.
