ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS

April 14, 2023
In Hebrews 13:6, we read, "So we can say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid…’" It reminds me of a quote I have used a few too many times, but I like it. Helen Keller said, "I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do." Not only do her words clearly focus our attention on the calling God has upon our individual gifts, but in light of who Helen Keller was, these words inspire me as I think of the outcome of her life. Not only do I wish to imitate her, but I seek to do so in the belief that I, like everyone else, has a gift that, if put to use, just might make a difference in this world.

O Lord, you are my helper. Encourage me to embrace my gift, even when it seems insignificant as compared to others. By your grace, I desire to see my gift added to the gifts of faithful people throughout the generation, those who were unafraid to remain faithful. Amen.
