ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS March 19, 2023 In worship today, we will spend some time reflecting on God naming us and anointing us. In a passage from 1st Peter 2, we hear how we have become God’s people so that we may speak of the wonderful acts of the one who called us out of darkness and into an amazing light. There is something interesting going on in that passage because we are called to speak while also being (living as) those who have been called out of the darkness and into this amazing brilliance. It is so much easier to trust the words of someone who is a glowing representation of the journey into a new life and light and love. And let’s be clear: The grace-filled enthusiasm of those who have made the journey will be unmistakable in the tone and intensity of their voices as they speak of the wonderful acts.
Let every moment with you, O God, find both joyful voice and embodied expression. There is too much awe-inspiring magnificence in knowing your limitless and relentless love to remain silent and sullen. Amen.
