ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
November 4, 2025 As a minister, I often encounter awe-inspiring moments within the church that are either challenging to share or, due to confidentiality, I simply cannot disclose. Yet despite the difficulties, I want to express my profound astonishment and admiration for the creativity, passion, and generosity displayed by Cypress Creek Christian Church. There are Sundays (and a whole lot of weekdays as well) when I feel a little imposter syndrome, as if I do not belong among such amazing people. Now I’m not saying that for the purpose of having people come to my defense. Instead, I share it because you have probably had a moment like that, when you were left awestruck by a group of people and something they did. Not long ago, I was talking to someone who shared a story about a group of longtime friends that had always had a really wonderful connection, but when a moment of crisis struck one member of the group, it was as if the friendship stepped to a place that none of them could have previously imagined. Gifts, acts of kindness, and wonderful support came in abundance, and not just immediately after the event. I am coming to believe that such moments don’t just happen. They are built over time, yet at the end of the day, it is God and God’s grace that appear to stand behind it all. As one who finds himself in awe of the church I am allowed to serve, I want to say thanks to this amazing community, but I also recognize that God deserves much of the gratitude. It is God who has inspired and given purpose to the joy, generosity, and great desire to see the love of Jesus touch more and more lives. So again, thanks be to God. But also thanks to a group of people who have faithfully said, “Here I am, God. How can I be useful?” Gratitude is a wonderful thing! So, thank you, Lord God! Thank you for being exactly who you are. And thank you for consistently inviting people, including a quirky group of individuals who identify as Cypress Creek Christian Church, to share in the profoundly significant work of the Gospel. Amen.
