ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS

What does it mean for Cypress Creek Christian Church to take a step in faith? What does it mean to look at who we are, the God-given gifts we have, and the context in which we find ourselves, and then ask what it means to be faithful in this moment? And of course, faithfulness is rarely sitting still and choosing to maintain. Faithfulness asks God to show what is not perceivable, and then to be guided by the Spirit down a path that is not necessarily known. There are so many stories within our tradition, including Abraham and Sarah who were invited to leave behind everything they knew and to go to an undisclosed location. God would show them, but they took those first few steps with absolutely no sense of where they were going. Esther was invited to risk everything with zero guarantee of success, let alone any promise that she would survive. I don’t believe God’s call upon Cypress Creek Christian Church is going to have us moving to a new location or even questioning whether we will live past tomorrow, but I do feel as if there is going to be a step in faith that could be uncomfortable and rather demanding upon us. But choosing to say YES is not only exhilarating, but there is joy in finding one’s purpose alongside God.

I might get a bit nervous, even feeling the need to turn back, yet something within me desires to trust your invitation, Gracious God. Provide me with faith washed in your limitless love. Amen.
