ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
October 11, 2025 Tomorrow, we continue on our Trek, exploring our Core Values, while also beginning to look more closely at what 2026 is going to mean for Cypress Creek Christian Church. In spite of many things that concern me culturally, and certain stresses around our family’s personal life (nothing big), I am extraordinarily excited about the coming year. In fact, I won’t even jump to January 1, 2026. I’m excited about today and tomorrow and the day after that. In a time when clergy friends are questioning their ministry and the relevancy of the church, and many of them have or are considering leaving ministry altogether, I am feeling more enthused and purposeful. Are there daunting tasks for us as a church? Absolutely! But can we name a period in the history of Christianity when it wasn’t daunting? Every generation has faced its own challenges and obstacles, but God has found a way. Some are suggesting that Christianity is near death, yet even if it is, we are a people of resurrection. Maybe a little time in the tomb might serve the church well. I won’t speak for other churches as that is not my calling, but in regard to Cypress Creek Christian Church, we know who we are and each day we are finding new ways of committing ourselves to the mission God is putting before us. And though some people might suggest that I am a paid spokesperson, and I am expected to be optimistic, there is nothing in my DNA that makes me a good actor for something I do not believe in. In fact, it’s not acting when you genuinely believe in what you are doing. And I do not believe I am alone in that feeling. Through prayer and the ongoing work of discernment, Holy God, continue to keep us focused on the ways of Jesus as you guide us to where such ministry needs to happen. We ask your blessing upon Cypress Creek Christian Church, yet there is something that tells us that your blessings already abound. Thank you! Amen.
