ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
September 8, 2024 Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, “The person who loves their dream of community will destroy community, but the person who loves those around them will create community.” Do we ever focus on the wrong thing even though we have convinced ourselves it is the right thing? Community is the abstract. But people should be the focus of our mission; they are the reality to which we have been called to embody love and offer service. The same could probably be said about family. We could love the concept of family while missing the opportunity to love those who are our family. To be able to think conceptually is important, but to live fully present in the now is where faith ultimate exists. Guide me, O God of Creation, into a deeper appreciation and love for every human being I encounter. Amen.
