ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
August 18, 2024 Ken Wilber says that most of us are only willing to call into question 5 percent of our present information, and that’s on our best days. The job of a pastor is to work gently within that 5 percent and slowly help individuals make needed changes where change is needed. Prophets, on the other hand, appear to have no concern about a person’s inability to deal with a lot of change at one time. A prophet’s mode of operation is truth-telling; no holds barred, and though many will reject the prophet's message, the truth will have been unleashed. The truth, set loose, will begin to change the world, whether anyone is ready to hear it or not. It will push people to the edges of their comfort zone, often stretching them to the point of discomfort. That’s when a pastor helps them make sense of life in light of this new-found truth. O Heavenly Word, speak to me even when you know it will challenge those things I hold dear. Amen.
