ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
August 1, 2024 I started the morning wanting to put July 32 on my Etching, as, to be perfectly honest, I did not get done in July what I had hoped to get done. There is a story in Joshua 10 about the sun being stopped in the sky, extending the length of the day. The larger story is troubling as it speaks of God throwing hail stones from the sky, killing many of Israel’s enemies. And then there is the problem of the sun staying in one place for an extended period of time with what can only be imagined as a catastrophic environmental impact, but that’s for another conversation. As much as we might like to extend a few hours to our current day or an additional day to our month, it’s probably better to simply engage the current moment as it is, and to do so, with all of who we are. In the end, complaining and even throwing a prayerful tantrum will not add even a moment to a day, but the time and energy lost by complaining or throwing that prayerful tantrum will be forever. Awaken me to this moment, O God of Immeasurable Possibilities. Though there is much that has not been completed and things that will forever remain undone, I pray for the spiritual tenacity to bring every ounce of my spiritual, emotional, and physical energy to what can be done. Amen.
