ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
April 11, 2025 Have you ever been asked for a favor, but you really didn’t know what you were getting yourself into? The disciples were asked to do a simple task, but their actions that day led them into the most significant week of their lives. In Luke 19, we read: When Jesus had come near Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples, saying, “Go into the village ahead of you, and as you enter it you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here” (vs. 29-30). The disciples believed they were merely borrowing a colt, unaware that they were delivering the vehicle for Jesus’ entrance, marking the commencement of the end, which would inevitably lead to a new beginning. We need to look at every moment of each day as a potential doorway into the most significant week of our lives. In fact, I think God always looks at whatever lies ahead as having more promise than any person could imagine. Maybe it’s time for us to imagine a bit bigger. Holy God, help me to see the opportunities for faithfulness made available to me, even when it begins with a rather simple task. Amen.
