ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
March 9, 2025 Wow! Today is the first Sunday of Lent! And though it is Lent, Cypress Creek Christian Church will be doing things a little differently. Don’t get me wrong, there will be the usual forty days, plus Sundays. It will be a bit more reflective, with an invitation to think a bit more deeply. But our theme is awaken, and though it isn’t entirely bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, it is intended to move us toward greater awareness. The colors and mood won’t be as heavy, so expect some small changes. In worship, change is good. It is a way of reminding us that we have transitioned into a different seasonal experience. If worship is entirely routine, with very little change, then it will be much more difficult to move through the life of Jesus and the full range of experiences in the faith journey. I don’t know about you, but my life is far from routine. The moment I think I have a routine, life shows up and throws the routine out the door. Worship can teach us how to be more responsive in those changes, instead of simply being shocked and shaken. I am looking forward to worship today and throughout the Season of Lent. The theme is: Awaken! Of course, I hope you remembered to change your clock so that you awakened at the correct time. Bless this day, Lord God, and continue to guide us as we move throughout this Lenten Season. Awaken us to all there is for us to see and learn, for our faith should never be stagnant, but a relationship that is forever growing in both depth and capacity. Amen.
