ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
February 15, 2026 How often are we walking through life, interacting with people, yet we really do not acknowledge the divine sacredness that exists within every single one of those we encounter? I wish I could tell you that I have never ignored or missed that sacred beauty, but it happens more often than I’d like to admit. Sometimes it is nothing more than busyness and the general chaos of life. Other times, something made me angry or maybe it was an underlying fear that had me seeing the other as one-dimensional and lacking in any sort of divine image. My opinion does not diminish another person’s sacredness. Even if that opinion is held by a majority of people, it is still wrong if it denies the sacredness of even one person. We can be disappointed or maybe angry with someone’s hurtful choices or unjust actions, but even a really humdinger of a poor decision does not have God reducing or withdrawing the divine image. We belong to God whether our lives are honoring or not honoring that divine image within. And because we all have some less-than-stellar days, we should give thanks for this important idea. If Jesus taught us anything, it is that the declaration of our goodness found in the creation story, O God of Grace, is not modified or impacted in any way by our excellent choices or our really horrible choices. Thank you! Thank you! Amen.
