ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
February 11, 2026 While at Ministers’ Week at Brite Divinity School, I have been talking to as many people who will listen about our Youth Ministry position. Some of them are not people who would be interested, but I am a firm believer that someone may know someone who knows someone. On two occasions yesterday, as I was giving a quick overview of Cypress Creek Christian Church, the person listening to me said something like, “You really light up when you talk about your church. There is clearly something that excites you.” Well, first, I am trying to find the right person for the position, and so it is a bit of a sales job. But being excited is not a show. I am a lousy actor. Even more so, I am truly excited about who we are and what God is doing in our midst. Do we have things to work on? Absolutely! But until the Reign of God is fully realized, there will always be things to work on. This is a good reminder that God is not done with us or this world in which we live. At a time when churches are struggling to find purpose, closing their doors, and clergy are leaving the ministry at a level never before seen, I am beyond thankful to be at a church that is continuing to find itself inspired and empowered by the Holy Spirit to be a part of the new thing God is doing in our midst. Continue to pray that the right person feels the nudge of the Spirit and that we as a church are also listening to that same Spirit. As you work among us and for us, O Spirit of Life and Calling, we bring into the moment active discernment. We desire above all things to join with you in the realization of your sacred dream. Amen.
