ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
January 7, 2026 The Rev. Dr. Terry Ewing recently shared a quote that I had not heard, but it truly resonated with me. And then he reflected on the quote. “The best way of taking care of the future is to take care of the present, because the future is made of the present.” ~Thich Nhat Hanh. Terry went on to share… It seems obvious. To build a brick wall, to be able to admire a finished project you need bricks. Each brick is set in its place, in a specific order, using the right amount of mortar, and letting the completed wall set undisturbed, so that it will be firm, lasting into the future. Without every brick in its place, without mortar, without time for curing, the wall will fall. It’s easy to believe there is a shortcut to the future I would like. Holy God, Eternal Presence, guide us into the now and all that we need to be doing in the now. Make us patient, for out of that patience comes a passion for what can become for those who do your necessary and sacred work. Amen.
